This Privacy Policy explains how Baykal Sailing collects and uses your personal data when you visit our website, send us an enquiry or charter our sailboat. We are a small, family-run company and we only collect the information we need to answer you and to organise your charter.

1. Who we are

We are the data controller for the personal data described below.

2. What data we collect

  • Enquiries and booking requests: your name, email address, phone number, preferred dates, number of guests, type of charter and your message.
  • Guest reviews: your name, country, when you sailed with us, your rating, your review and your email address (the email address is never published).
  • Charter contract and crew list: names, nationality, date of birth and passport or ID details of everyone on board, and the skipper’s sailing licence. Port and customs authorities require this information.
  • Payments: the information needed to receive your charter payment and security deposit. We do not collect or store card details on this website.
  • Website usage: technical data such as your IP address, browser type and pages visited, collected by our hosting provider for security and statistics.

3. Why we use your data

  • To answer your questions and send you availability and a quote.
  • To prepare and carry out your charter contract.
  • To meet our legal obligations, for example the crew list and transit log for the port authorities.
  • To publish your review on our website, only if you have given your consent.
  • To keep our website secure and working well.

We process your data on the basis of the contract with you (or the steps before it), our legal obligations, our legitimate interest in running our business and, for published reviews, your consent. This applies under the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK) and, for guests from the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

4. Who we share your data with

We never sell your data. We only share it when it is necessary for your charter or required by law: with port, customs and immigration authorities, Setur Kaş Marina, our insurers and, if you book one, your skipper. Our website is hosted by WordPress.com (Automattic), which processes website data on our behalf. Some of these service providers may be located outside Türkiye.

5. How long we keep your data

We keep enquiries that do not lead to a booking for up to two years. Contracts, crew lists and accounting records are kept for as long as Turkish law requires. Published reviews stay online until you ask us to remove them.

6. Cookies

Our website uses cookies that are needed for it to work, and statistics cookies from our hosting provider that help us understand how the site is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

7. Your rights

You can ask us at any time to tell you what data we hold about you, to correct or delete it, to restrict or object to its use, or to receive a copy. You can withdraw your consent to a published review at any time. Just write to us at the email address above. You also have the right to complain to the Turkish Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK) or, if you live in the EU, to your local data protection authority.
